Imshi.
Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 2026
Imshi is a step-counting app for friends. This page explains, plainly, what we collect and what we do with it. If anything here is unclear, email imshi@alqefari.app.
What we collect
- Step counts — read from Apple Health (iOS) or Health Connect (Android) only when you grant permission. Used to show your daily total alongside your friends'.
- Account info — your name, email, and profile photo from the sign-in provider you choose. Used to identify you to your friends.
- Username — the handle you pick. Visible to friends and to anyone searching to add you.
- Phone number — collected when you sign up so friends already on Imshi can find you. Stored as a one-way SHA-256 hash, not in cleartext. Visible to no one. Used only to match your hash against hashes of other users' contact lists.
- Friend list — the people you add as friends and the groups you create. Used to build your leaderboards.
- Diagnostic data — basic crash and error reports. Not linked to your identity.
What we don't collect
- Your location. Imshi never asks for location permission and never knows where you walked.
- Heart rate, sleep, workout, or any other Health data beyond step counts.
- Your contact list. When you tap "Connect contacts" we read phone numbers and email addresses from your address book on your device, hash each one with SHA-256 locally, and send the hashes to our server only to look up matches. The plaintext contacts never leave your phone, and we never store the hashes you submit — they're query input that's discarded after the lookup.
- Advertising identifiers. We do not show ads, and we do not let anyone else use your data for ads.
Who can see what
Your step count, username, display name, and profile photo are visible to your friends — that's the point of the app. Nothing else is shared. We never sell data, and we never rent data.
How long we keep it
We retain your step entries for as long as your account exists. Deleting the app does not delete your account; you can fully delete your account from inside the app (see "Your choices" below). All data is encrypted in transit.
Children
Imshi is rated 4+ but is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has signed up, email us and we will delete the account.
Your choices
- Revoke Health access — iOS Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Imshi → toggle off. The app will continue to work but your step number will stop updating.
- Delete your account — You tab → Delete account. Wipes your friend list, group memberships, step entries, and any device tokens. Immediate and irreversible.
- Sign out — You tab → Sign out. Clears your session on this device.
Changes to this policy
If we materially change this policy, we will note it at the top of this page with a new "last updated" date.
